Lovely lovely people! So friendly and warm. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the lovely flat, food was great and so nice to be able to chat with some locals and find out first hand about all things Hungarian! A special mention has to be the Sour Cherry Soup, I believe the picking of them was especially important and all the hard work was appreciated! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Budapest as it was the highlight of our short break, defiantly a must.
So good I came back for the second time!
Last summer I came with my friend and I was pretty sure that I would be back at Kitchen Pixie if I ever came to Budapest again. This time around I brought my mom and we had a great time! We had some appetizers and homemade palinka for starters. The chicken soup, the pan fried pork fillet main course with the potatoes were really good too. Anyone who wants to experience authentic, homecooked Hungarian cuisine should try Kitchen Pixie - a trip to Budapest is simply just incomplete without a visit here.
I also should note that I couldn't find the same taste of the elderberry syrup and roasted goose leg from the Jewish meal (which i had when i came the first time) anywhere else. This is homecooking at best. Marti knows all the food sources (she hand picks the berries she uses to make the syrups).
Overall the meal is also a lot lighter than what you'd usually get in restaurants - including the dessert - it does defy the usual perception of Western food. :)
Thank you for a lovely and entertaining evening!
Thank you Kitchen Pixies for a lovely and entertaining evening! We are group of four friends that can truly recommend Kitchen Pixies as a fun way to get to know Hungarian people, food and customs. As we had limited knowledge of the city Budapest we appreciated the pick up services offered by Kitchen Pixies, their recommendations on how to spend our days as tourist in the city and their knowledge of Hungarian life. The very nice trio of Marti, Peter and Gabor served us a tasty three course meal at a cosy yet modern apartment in the city centre. It seemed quite optional how much you wished to involve yourself in the cooking, but at least we had fun contributing to the making of the dumplings served with the paprika chicken and flipping the pancakes for desserts. The atmosphere of the evening we visited Kitchen Pixies was very good, not only due to a glass or two of homemade Palinka, but because the hosts really took great care of us all!
Personalized and Delicious Culinary Hungarian Experience!
We had the best time cooking with Marta!
We booked this the day before when we were looking for a unique experience on Trip Advisor and we are so glad we did. They really went above and beyond, from picking us up at our AirBnb, to giving us a lot of very personalized recommendations for where to eat, what baths to go to etc. to taking tons of pictures and sending them to us after.
Although we are not advanced cooks, we picked the somewhat difficult Hungarian Menu C, and Marta taught us a ton of skills that we have been using at home. We ended our lunch feeling that not only had we eaten an incredible meal, but also that we had made new friends. I cannot recommend this class highly enough! We only spent 3 days in Budapest, and left with lots of sights we need to go back and see, but going to this class was absolutely the highlight of our trip and we are so glad we went!
Fantastic way to experience the food and people of Budapest
We had so much fun on this tour! We had looked for a food type of tour to do while in Budapest and based on reviews decided to go with Kitchen Pixies. From the beginning, they were very nice, kind and professional. Arranging the tour was very easy and they promptly answered any questions we had.
On the day of the tour, Peter met us at our hotel to take us to their flat. We were welcomed with a drink of Palinka (homemade!) and some Hungarian appetizers (all delicious!) then they introduced themselves, asked about us and let us know how the day was going to go.
We had decided on the menu of Sour Cherry Soup, Chicken Paprikash with dumplings and Hungarian styled pancakes for dessert. Marti and Szilvi were wonderful and patient instructors, telling us the steps and watching to make sure we did it correctly. While my wife, Mom and I continued to make the meal under their watchful eye, my Dad thoroughly enjoyed himself getting to know Peter and Gabor and what life was like in Budapest.
We all sat down to enjoy the meal and it was delicious! The wines that they served and were offered went very well with the dinner. I had let them know that my wife's birthday was that day and they went out of their way to make her feel special. It was definitely a highlight of the trip and I am extremely grateful to them for all of the hard work and effort they put into making the experience memorable and fun. I would highly encourage and recommend this tour. It is well worth the price for the time spent and memories made.
